Food for Liver Detox in Spring

According to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), each of the main organs (Liver, Heart, Lung and Kidney) is associated to one of the seasons; Liver to Spring, Heart to Summer, Lung to Autumn and Kidney to Winter). The organs are dominant and tend to have a stronger energy in the associated season.

You could benefit more from taking certain food according to the season. The following food is suggested as part of your diet for liver detox during the Spring season.

  • Cucumber
  • Seaweeds
  • Daikon Radish
  • Edible black tree fungus

Food for summer

When the season changes, we should adjust our diet accordingly to maximize the health benefit of the food we eat. Summer is here now. The following food should be part of our diet on a regular basis for the season.

  • Ginger
  • Mung bean
  • Bitter melon, cooked with chili for a very hot and humid day
  • Watermelon

Also, we should try to avoid using air conditioning as much as possible as it has adverse effect on our health. Sweating in a hot day is a natural detox process of our body, which should not be suppressed by using air conditioning.

Cold and Flu Season

With the cold and flu season approaching, prevention is always better than cure. We should have our body prepared to be able to fight off the illness, improving our immune system. Although there are a number of factors influencing our immune system, such as diet, exercise, sleep, stress etc, Chinese herbal medicine and acupuncture treatments is very effective way to improve our immune system.
